Ethnic diversity is evident in the media, at shopping malls, and in many schools. Such diversity is less evident in our churches, but it is growing. In recent years, our society has seen deeper challenges, and churches are sometimes helpful and sometimes not. We wish to promote more attentiveness, wisdom, and faithfulness—and the kind of leadership that shapes faith communities that discern God's initiatives so that they can more fully participate. The gospel calls us to costly intercultural life among churches and our neighbors.

In our research, we learned from numerous pastors who are involved daily in intercultural life. Each video tells on-the-ground stories, and our descriptions suggest discussion questions and make specific connections to chapters in the book.

Today, the American church―perhaps now more than ever―needs to embody God's reconciliation and hope. The Black Lives Matter and Stop AAPI Hate movements have clearly shone a light on the deep brokenness and racism in our society. Relevant for this racial moment, Churches, Cultures and Leadership offers an amazing sociocultural framework for church leaders to discern God's initiatives, even amid our society's fracturing. Branson and Martinez thoughtfully provide insights, scriptural resources, and group exercises to assist local congregations in becoming a healing signpost and an instrument of God's peace in their communities.
